This is located in the Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan Protected Areas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 3 majestic rivers that arises from this area are the Yangtze (Jinsha), Mekong (Lancang) and Nujiang (Salween) rivers.

After this area of near confluence, the rivers greatly diverge: the Nujiang River becomes Salween and empties in Burma at Moulmein. into the Indian Ocean. The Lancang becomes the Mekong and south of Saigon, Vietnam, empties out into the South China Sea. The Yangtse flows into the East China Sea at Shanghai.
